Great advice for any business whether you want to sell now or not

There are so many books out there on how to start and run a business, but so few that provide excellent advice on how to exit successfully on your terms. I work with small businesses every day and around 30% plan to sell within the next 2 to 5 years yet few have a clear plan around how they will achieve the sale they want. This book provides practical advice, strategies and case studies around how to maximise the value of your business AND execute a successful sale. I particularly love how this book helps us step into the shoes of the buyer. If you are looking to buy a business, there are insights in this book which might help you avoid expensive mistakes. Much of the advice in this book will help any business wanting to increase profit and cash in their business now, whether they are looking to sell in the near future or not. Too often I've learned lessons in business after the fact - from my mistakes. I wish I had a 'do over' button after reading this book!

This is a book that every single small business owner who ultimately wants to sell their business, needs to read.

Having worked with many small business owners in an advisory role, I have no doubt that exiting their business is one topic filled with uncertainty and grey areas. Of course it is vitally important to get it right, yet few businesses do. It's great to see Sam and Stuart have written a very good book, with a practical framework to follow, that will really help small business owners understand the steps they need to take to get the maximum sale price for their business. I think most readers will be very surprised by the amount of information covered and the potential problems that will be overcome by reading this book. All in all - two thumbs up and a five star read for me. Great job fellas - definitely a book for every single small business owner on the planet!

How to prepare for and sell your business

The authors have produced a book which will help every small business owner plan and organize the sale of his/her business. The chapter on the business owner's purpose provides some thoughtful and useful ideas on the motivation for the sale and the mindset of the seller.The tips on what to avoid are excellent and could save the business owner a small fortune by not making costly errors. Due diligence is well covered, of course, but the book goes beyond the usual practices needed to prepare a business for sale. I particularly liked the chapter on the valuation of a business which I found to be pragmatic and down to earth. The absence of tips on the structuring of the agreement of sale was my only disappointment in an otherwise superb book.
