I never thought it would be possible for me ...

Self confidence is extremely important in almost every aspect of our lives, yet so many people struggle to find it. Sadly, this can be a vicious circle: people who lack self confidence can find it difficult to become successful.
I love the way writer explained all those points in the book so simply and in such a short length. The book is really short and can be completed within 2 hours maximum. There are some books even better than this one out there but this is also equally important.
Each tip in the book is designed to be a small, attainable goal; you can do to help boost your self-esteem and confidence to have a happy life. Some of these goals are personal, while others are social related. Some are goals that involve improving relationships with other people.
Like what this book says, see the cup as half full rather than half empty. Focus on what you can do instead of what you cannot do. Learn to relax, increase your competence level and be positive.
I never thought it would be possible for me to say I was a confident person, or for me to ever hear anyone else say that I was a confident person. All that has changed after reading this book and putting what I learned from in into practice in my own life. I have never been happier in my entire life. I would recommend this to anyone who has always wanted to be more confident.

This is a great book on helping your self confidence

This is a great book on helping your self confidence. It is a quick read and to the point. You get the information you need and can move on to start working with it. It is also a great guide in having a better confidence level, a great book to speak about insights so that one will understand why he is having a low level of self-confidence. I would like to recommend this book to all of you. The book won't take you more than an hour to read but the tips can help you for a lifetime. For the price, you can't go wrong.

TREMENDOUS Self Help Book...a MUST read!!!

My problem is that I lack self confidence. I am afraid that I may so or do something dumb in the eyes of the public. Fear is probably the root of all. Fear to fail is what makes a person less of what he/she is. Instead of doing what we could but because of fear most of us withdraw ourselves. We just prefer to be contented of what we have instead of moving out of our comfort zone and achieve something great. We are covered with negative emotions and perspectives in life seems to be different. This is all because of lack of self confidence. Like what this book says, see the cup as half full rather than half empty. Focus on what you can do instead of what you cannot do. Learn to relax, increase your competence level, be positive. I learned with this book that I can step out of my comfort zone and be comfortable being there. I am trying to put to test Nathan's tips on how not to stress out on so many things. I should focus on the good things not the negative things. I am only giving this book 4 stars because it was too short. Please dont get me wrong, this book was a TREMENDOUS help, but I think it should have been a bit more in depth. This book is really a great help to someone who doubt themselves and what they can do. So i highly recommend this book to everybody. It's a big help! It has really helped me!

About the Author
American born Napoleon Hill is considered to have influenced more people into success than any other person in history. He has been perhaps the most influential man in the area of personal success technique development, primarily through his classic book Think and Grow Rich which has helped million of the people and has been important in the life of many successful people such as W. Clement Stone and Og Mandino. Napoleon Hill was born into poverty in 1883 in a one-room cabin on the Pound River in Wise County, Virginia. At the age of 10 his mother died, and two years later his father remarried. He became a very rebellious boy, but grew up to be an incredible man. He began his writing career at age 13 as a mountain reporter for small town newspapers and went on to become America's most beloved motivational author. Fighting against all class of great disadvantages and pressures, he dedicated more than 25 years of his life to define the reasons by which so many people fail to achieve true financial success and happiness in their life. During this time he achieved great success as an attorney and journalist. His early career as a reporter helped finance his way through law school. He was given an assignment to write a series of success stories of famous men, and his big break came when he was asked to interview steel-magnate Andrew Carnegie. Mr. Carnegie commissioned Hill to interview over 500 millionaires to find a success formula that could be used by the average person. These included Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Henry Ford, Elmer Gates, Charles M. Schwab, Theodore Roosevelt, William Wrigley Jr, John Wanamaker, WIlliam Jennings Bryan, George Eastman, Woodrow Wilson, William H. Taft, John D. Rockefeller, F. W. Woolworth, Jennings Randolph, among others. He became an advisor to Andrew Carnegie, and with Carnegie's help he formulated a philosophy of success, drawing on the thoughts and experience of a multitude of rags-to-riches tycoons. It took Hill over 20 years to produce his book, a classic in the Personal Development field called Think and Grow Rich. This book has sold over 7 million copies and has helped thousands achieve success. The secret to success is very simple but you'll have to read the book to find out what it is! In defense of a particular audio rendition of this work, I'll make a few points about what we commonly refer to as The Law of Success by Napoleon Hill.

Since few reviews list them, the 17 principles of success according to Dr. Hill are as follows:

1) The Master Mind - Learn the psychology behind success and how you can use it to enhance your personal power.

2) A Definite Chief Aim - Save wasted effort, and focus your heart and mind on a well-conceived, practical purpose.

3) Self-Confidence - Overcome the six basic fears and empower yourself without falling into the trap of egotism.

4) The Habit of Saving - Master this basic concept and learn to harness your greatest source of personal power.

5) Initiative and Leadership - Develop your instincts to anticipate problems and know when to seize opportunities.

6) Imagination - Stimulate your mind to create new concepts out of common ideas and put them to work for you.

7) Enthusiasm - Overcome uncertainty or shyness, and inspire others to take an interest in you and your ideas.

8) Self-Control - Find the firmness of character to truly be "master of your fate and the captain of your soul."

One reviewer here remarked that you ought to just skip this entire book set and instead get Think and Grow Rich, however a cursory examination of the table of contents for Law of Success and Think and Grow Rich shows that the latter book covers a slightly different set of topics. Law of Success lays the groundwork for a success mentality whereas Think and Grow Rich spreads into the realm of some specific actions which you ought to undertake. Thereafter, the entire work is re-copyrighted. Hence we see a collection of competing versions of the same original text, some of better quality than others. Any hard copy will run between 1,000 -1,600 pages, so check the page count to ensure you get what you are bargaining for.

As a personal fan of both the science of self-improvement and audiobooks, I recommend against both the BN Publishing edition and the Audible download edition.

The Audible edition is an earlier rendition of the text which contains only 15 original main principles, whereas Mr. Hill gradually expanded his Law of Success central thesis from 15 to 17 over the course of his later life. Additionally, I advise against any Audible product because I cannot in good faith suggest your purchase of any sort of digital media download which contains Digital Rights Management (DRM). With DRM downloads, you run into headaches with playback, copying or burning and ultimately you don't really own the media you paid for.

The BN Publishing edition gives the impression of being extremely poorly executed and the final product leaves a bit to be desired. The two-cd set is well-printed, but the text is an earlier version, the quality of the MP3's sound terrible, and the back cover points to the wrong homepage for the publisher(!).

Therefore, with neither package do you get the "real deal."

The best-quality audiobook of The Law of Success is the High Roads Media edition, which you can buy either from the Napoleon Hill Foundation or here at Amazon. It is a 4-volume unabridged set with some minor editing, some more current examples, and editorial clarifications.

This set is a bit more expensive than other audiobook approaches but you get the most exposure to the material for the money. Hard copies of this set are also available and are also strongly recommended.

For myself, I am about halfway through the third volume and the going is great. Already my mind and mentality is beginning to shift towards more success-consciousness. I feel better and my "success instincts" are beginning to sharpen. The content is a bit long-winded and archaic, but very solid and very well-thought out, what with 20 years of active research necessary to produce these insights. I heartily recommend it and it should not be passed over. I wish I had come across this 10 years ago.

OUTSTANDING for REAL WEALTH from the Inside Out that LASTS

This is one of the BEST books (there are two in the set) that I have ever read for what truly creates real and lasting wealth, as well as what prevents people from the same.

The wisdom in this book is timeless, and will definitely show you where you may have been unconsciously blocking abundance in your life, as well as the character beneath to sustain it with a pure conscious.

I could quote this book a thousand times. A few of my favorites are:

"No man has a chance to enjoy permanent success until he begins to look in the mirror for the real cause of all his mistakes."

"Don't be afraid of a little opposition. Remember that the 'Kite' of success generally rises AGAINST the wind of Adversity - not with it!"

"Is it not strange that we fear most that which never happens? That we destroy our initiative by the fear of defeat, when, in reality, defeat is a most useful tonic and should be accepted as such."

"Service, Sacrifice and Self-Control are three words which must be well understood by the person who succeeds in doing something that is of help to this world."

"Charles Chaplin makes a million dollars a year out of a funny, shuffling walk and a pair of baggy trousers, because he does 'something different.' Take the hint and individualize yourself with some distinctive idea."

"E.M. Statler became the most successful hotel man in the world by rendering MORE SERVICE and BETTER SERVICE THAN HIS GUESTS WERE ASKED TO PAY FOR."

There is more in this book of lasting value that can truly make a difference in your life than many get-rich-quick books I've come across. As this great book states, "Conceit is a fog which envelops a man's real character beyond his own recognition. It weakens his native abilities and strengthens all his inconsistencies."

This book really shows you the stuff wealth is made of. It comes from a pure heart, an open mind that values wisdom, and a person who values people more than dollars. Do that, and you'll come to find more dollars than you ever have before.

Along with this book, I recommend "Think and Grow Rich" (shown above) and "Failing Forward" by John C. Maxwell if you're looking for more current examples, though timeless and rewarding.

The equalivent of an MBA in personal development

Like most people I bought Think & Grow Rich along with several other business and positive mind books. A leader in a company that I was associated with suggested The Law of Success. He warned me that it would be a lot of reading. At that time it was two hard back copies, beautifully bound.
I asked him if the books helped him. He told me that this set helped him achieve a level of success that was previously unattainable to him. And he told me that this series was much more complete than Think & Grow Rich---it was like attending class. Transcripts from actual Napolean Hill lectures.

This was adorable. Jada and Brett had great chemistry and Rena Manse made their quickly falling in love feel plausible. For a short, it has a surprising amount of character development and detail. I am hoping against hope that Manse will write another short about this couple in the future!

Perfect Vacation Read

Flawless! Rena Manse fleshes out the characters, gives satisfying backstory, organically weaves in faith elements and even provides a cavalcade of background extras all packed into a robust Novella which does not skimp on her trademark full emersion "deep point of view" writing style. The romance unfolds at a logical pace and does not feel forced or rushed. As with her other three full length novels this does not disappoint. Cannot wait for future novels and novellas. Well done!

Laying the Foundation for Personal Growth

The measure of a true leader is the relentless pursuit of self-improvement in our daily lives. By never being satisfied with our skill level in our primary endeavor; by constantly striving to improve some facet of our performance, we will learn from our experience and approach every obstacle with a clear understanding about what we need to do to overcome it; accepting the safe status-quo isn't an option.

John C Maxwell certainly understands what it takes to be an effective leader; he's already written a slew of terrific books on the subject, and his latest effort is designed to lay the proper foundation for personal growth; to maximize our leadership skills by adding some measure of experience and knowledge to our existing level of expertise. The key is to repeat the process every day; this isn't a self-improvement project for the faint of heart.

A short and valuable read that will make you think about how you're are managing your personal growth

"Self-Improvement 101" could have just as easily been titled "Growth 101" as the book is basically a framework around how to intentionally grow yourself - and particularly your leadership abilities. As with most of the "101" series of books, we get a condensed summary of material that has appeared in his other books (this one borrows heavily from "Failing Forward"), but it is very successful in providing you with the nuts-and-bolts required to intentionally focus your growth in the areas that will provide the best results. For me, the most valuable pieces were around the concept of sacrifice in order to grow (you must give up something in order to truly grow - you can't do everything) and the discussion around the risk of failure. Picking items to sacrifice in order to move on was a new concept for me...and probably will result in some of the most difficult decisions I'll ever make. A short and valuable read that will make you think about how you're are managing your personal growth.

When you attend college, the 101 level classes are the introductions to a subject that could be very deep and involved. That’s exactly what John Maxwell intended to do with all of his 101 books—give us just enough information to entice us to go deeper.

Self-Improvement 101 will introduce you to some of the concepts that Dr. Maxwell deals with in more depth (think a 301 or 401 level class) in his other books. He tells us the benefits that come from making improvements, the first steps we can take on the road to improvement, and hints at how we can live a life of continual improvement.

If you’d like to make some changes in your life, Self-Improvement 101 could be a great starting point for you, and could be a great introduction to some of John Maxwell’s other outstanding books.

If you have read previous Sir Richard Branson's books; you have read most of it already. However, this book, "Business Stripped Bare: Adventures of a Global Entrepreneur", Sir Richard Branson focused solely on the business side of his life. Actually, all his life is about business! Unlike other business book writers, he has the first-hand experience in Virgin. In this book, he covered lots of topics. A quote from the book "So all I can do for you now (and I firmly believe that this is all anyone can honestly do) is map the territory I've seen. The good news is, I've covered a lot of territory."

This book is not written as an autobiography. I think of an ideal business book and I'll compare Business Stripped Bare to it; a book that is easy to read, distinct, practical, credible, insightful, and provides great reading experience.

Ease of Understanding: 8/10: Richard Branson wrote it in plain language and make the readers follow him easily. The drawback of the book is that sometimes, the issues jump back and forth from mobile to records to airline to health clubs to finance and so on! Anyway, the part on Virgin Galactic (the rocket science) is not rocket-scientifically difficult to understand!

Distinction: 7/10: Although his life experience is one of its kind, there are other books on this already namely "Losing My Virginity" and "Screw It, Let's Do It" by... Richard Branson...! However, the way he explained the general ideas of people, innovation, brand, etc (the usual business terms) through his experience is unlike those typical business books that litter these contents with figures, theories, graphs, models, metaphors and so forth.

Practicality: 5/10: Richard Branson offers no solid steps to encourage people, enrich brand, turbocharge delivery, foster leadership, and so on. He believes that everyone has his/her own story and way. He did not say that following him is the best approach to business but he made you think of your own. However, his general comments (with his experience as the credentials) are valuable and you cannot really dispute them.

Credibility: 10/10: His ideas are proven; people, brand, delivery, leadership, and so on. He made it work. Where is the better place to find the idea of business and entrepreneurship other than the words of one of the greatest global entrepreneurs?

Insight: 7/10: Although Richard Branson do not describe the ideas of innovation, brand, people, social responsibility with academic researches and scientific findings, he wrote it from his experience which is more valuable than most researches. Not that researches are insignificant but his life should be taught as a module in business schools. But if you already read his other books, this book will offer you only few new contents.

Reading Experience: 10/10: This book is like a journey into one of the most adventurous businessmen in the world. Like he said, the book (his life) covers a lot of territory. If you like reading other people's life, there is no better person to read than Richard Branson. This book is like an adventure that it starts out with serious business contents with sparks of excitement and ends with good causes and social responsibility that we can make a difference not on but to Earth.

Overall: 7.8/10: This book is encouraging; it encourages you to go out and start a business. This book is motivating, it motivates you to make your business exciting. This book is inspiring; it inspires you to make you business meaningful and virtuous. This book will not make you want to be Richard Branson but it will make you want to have a great business life. This autobiographical business book is for everyone who loves business. If you have read Richard Branson's book before, do not expect it to be something totally new. If you have not, I don't see a reason why shouldn't you give it a try.

For years it's been frustrating to me that none of Richard Branson's books were available on audio, so when this one came out I jumped on it.

Okay, this book is not as instructional and detailed as books like Good to Great. However, as wonderful as those other authors are, none of them have founded multi-billion dollar international firms. So what advice is here is coming straight from a source.

I know some are probably scoffing at the idea, sure that this book is ghost written, but I doubt it. Branson is a brand fanatic, who has made himself the living symbol of the brand.

Unlike Trump and others who espouse a cut-throat, zero-sum philosophy, Branson shows that entrepreneurship and conscience are not mutually exclusive. You can be a good person and a good businessman.

So if you want some sound business advice and a solid dose of hope this is the book to read... or listen.

A Helpful Saga

Having attended high school with Richard Branson's first wife, and being an admirer of his "Virgin" empire and adventurous spirit, I try to read everything I can on him. This book is filled with detailed information on his latest Virgin experiences - sometimes it gets a bit too tedious, and Branson tends to "toot his own horn" on occasion. I think it's the kind of book you read in parts, and since the chapters are rather long, a reader may have to "cut the tale" down to shorter segments. I will say this- a few years ago, I invited an Virgin Atlantic official to speak to a foreign language class on how to utilize another language in a career. She did an excellent job in her presentation and also treated the students to "virgin" gift bags. I wrote to Mr.Branson in praise of his employee, and he immediately sent me a "thank you" note for supplying this onformation to him. I was forever impressed.. !!

Don't stew in the stress of conflict--you can resolve it!

Nance Schick has done a masterful job at identifying the many conflicts that affect our lives … and to seeing the ways we are “conflicted” on a number of fronts. She also encourages us to challenge the assumption that tension and conflict always need to be the order of the day. The examples are clear and engaging (and sometimes, hitting a little too close to home), and the personal stories are compelling. The book contains practical, actionable tips to help us get out of conflict WITH conflict by helping us identify it, embrace it, transform it, and move on. I’m a colleague of Nance’s who read earlier drafts of this book (full disclosure)—and I think that any reader will appreciate Nance’s spirit of generosity and the clear, non-judgmental process she outlines.

This book addresses a variety of personal and business conflicts that happen. They are described in a way where you are reminded that you aren't the only one with these issues. Lots of ideas are given for resolution and reading the book as a reference for future problem solving is a good reason to have it on hand.
