This book is absolutely enlightening and wonderful. It gets your thoughts in perspective about life in general...not just about getting "rich". It deals with our thoughts, emotions, at matters and what doesn't! It makes you take a good long hard look at yourself and directs you to a path where you can be "rich" in anything if you apply these principles. I would recommend it to anyone who would be humble enough to read it. I wish I had read this book long ago!

I have listened to the audio version of the book and have to say that it is my favorite title I have in my mp3. I find myself listening to certain parts of the book over and over again.

This isn't your usual self help book that feels like a clone of everyone elses book. The book is pretty deep and really should be studied until it gets entreched in you brain. There are some really great ideas that shouldn't be taken lightly.

For instance, the authors suggest that if "someone is getting ready to harm you wife or mother in front of you, you wouldn't think "well I don't know if I will succeed at stoping the intruder or what if i fail at stopping him from hurting my wife. Of course you wouldn't even consider that, you will react without even thinking about the consequences.

The above mentioned contrasts that analogy to a key result in your life that must be acted on, but you don't do it because of all the thoughts that go through your mind that stops you.(anyway, you get the picture)

The authors take a group of "losers/(bitchers)" and take them through a journey of self discovery as you can and will relate to one of the "losers" in the group.

I don't have the book, but as far as the audio...it's great.

I have my own business and I felt a little stale, I was looking for some inspiration so I picked up Toney's "Don't Bitch Just Get Rich" book because I loved the title. I really thought it would be like the rest of the motivation books out there, but this gave me another level of thinking and made me relate to allot of my own situations. This book taught me allot about moving ON and UP in life. I read the book about 5 months ago and I couldn't put it down, I have implemented what I have learnt and my business and personal life is NO longer stale, but flourishing. I would like to personally thank Toney for his gift so powerful....the book has really changed my life!! Libby.

I have enjoyed reading and learning about the Presidents of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since my conversion in 2006. Now learning about Howard W. Hunter is giving me another point of view from this much loved President of the LDS Church, from revelations that our Lord and Saviour reviled to him and he in-turn taught the Church. I love his teachings!

Sweet!

This was a very sweet story. I was so afraid she was going to turn Tom down. Very pleased that she listened to wise counsel from her friend Sara and didn't run back to Henry.

It was so nice that her parents decided to move to Texas too! And it's quite true you don't have to give birth to be a mother. I lost five babies through miscarriage, both accidental and on purpose due to my ex. But I was blessed with a son that my oldest sister didn't want. I had him since birth, adopted him when he was four months old.

He is a wonderful son, lives with us ever since his wife divorced him because he didn't have the money she wanted. He helps to take care of me by doing laundry, helps my brother make meals, helps get groceries and yard work with his uncle and my husband. Who by the way adopted him when our son was six. Our son is now 47. Am I Blessed? Most assuredly!

Great story to start, middle was good too. Good conflict, good (and bad) characters. But how to end it all in one quick chapter called Happy Ending was very disappointing!

A great summary.

Typically just a summary of the actual book entitled Getting To Yes and intended only to supplement your reading and be a reference. This book only contains on-point stuff about the original book, the not so lengthy stuff and lesser details but straight to the point. This book contains the styles of negotiation, the 2 main areas that goes wrong, separating the people from the problem, focusing on interests, typical questions, the what ifs, all discussed briefly and in a lesser detailed way. A great summary.

This book, Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In, has been an informative read. Although a short read, it has made me think about a lot of things, especially in convincing people and making them agree to what I'm proposing. I think that for a summary, this book has been profound and comprehensive, will help people and will make a great impact once the wisdom here is followed.

Tullah is a planet so similar to the Earth, the human development and the surrounding basically are the same. Living in a house with a broken family, Glory struggles to keep up with her friends and often spent her time exploring the cave. Her mother died from giving birth to the last son of the family, making her dad a miserable man. Since that, everything went wrong all the way. Hiding behind the booze and anger, her father servesd little function in the house. Forced to take up the responsibilities of a mother, Glory’s sister, Patrice was forced to be an adult. In order to keep the siblings together, their grandparents stay with them, so that the social worker have no reason to take anyone away. Together with her best friend, Clash, Glory spent most of her time exploring the Queen Mesa. While exploring, she loves to pick up beautiful stones with hope that one of them might be a rare jewel and she will be rich enough to change the fate of her family. Until one day, she decided to start her journey in the cave alone and to her surprise, she discovered new pathway. Struggling to pass the narrow hole, she was rewarded by a sight of a beautiful stone. Little that she knows, everything is going to change.
This book is a fun book. I would say that this an adventure book with loads of fun and full of magic. I like how it is relatable since Verhoff decided to make the setting to be similar to Earth. While reading, I tend to think of what would we call certain things here and make a comparison. I find the book more enjoyable because of the characters and how they were portrayed. Every characters hold certain effect towards Glory, creating a connection between them and readers. The storyline and the writing style was superb as it is easy to follow and make perfect sense. The adventures featured in the book was described clearly, making it easier to keep on reading. It triggers the perfect amount of mixed emotions; anger, nervousness, fear and determination. The underlying messages were beautiful as well.
However, I would enjoy the book much better if Verhoff decided to explain on other planets and other elements from the settings. I feel as if I missed out the opportunity of discovering a lot more from the book. However, she did mentioned of making this a series, so probably this can be tackled in near future.
Thus, I decided that this book deserves a 4-star. I think this book is a good book with a mixture of adventure and magic. I enjoy reading the book a lot. This might be a 5-star book if it comes with better settings and more explanations on how the other world works. Plus, I would love to read more about Glory and her experience before everything started. Still, this a book worth reading and I would definitely recommend it to other people.

Amazing fun story for all ages

The Wish Thief } This story had me feeling like a kid again. It is Alice in Wonderland, Goonies, a little of the Wizard of Oz, and What's Eating Gilbert Grape all rolled into one. The story is Awesome! It is steady paced and very easy to follow. It would make a fantastic family movie.
Glory Alley's family and life are very hard to handle for some, but there a lot of families just like hers out there today, sad. This story takes place on a planet just like ours. Collecting rocks of different kinds is her passion and get away, until she found a rock so unusual and beautiful, that she had to give it to her Mother for her Birthday. That's when her adventure began!
There were little men and a Queen of sorts, from another planet. They wanted that special rock she found and gave to her Mother. Why???? Could this rock be magical? Could this rock allow her to make a wish? Could this rock change her life forever, good or bad? Glory had so many questions. She had to prove herself and figure out the 8 steps she needed or so she thought, to get what she really wants. It was like a trip down the rabbit whole and following the yellow brick road.
At points the story had me cheering Glory on. At some points it had me in tears. At some points it had me scared for her. And at some points it had me smiling and happy for her. As I was there watching her do and go through every thing she had to, I felt like her friend, Mother and helper of sorts. I was drawn into every aspect of the story.
This story is full of fun, surprises, family good times and bad, adventure, faith in ones self, true friendship, and courage. It is a wonderful story for people of all ages. I was blown away by how the author captured the true essence of a young child determined to help her family, no matter if it was her life in exchange. A lot of hard lessons learned along the way.
I enjoyed this book to no end! The Author mentioned possibly a second book, I sure hope so. I would love to be one of the ones to read a review it. It captivated my mind and I was a kids lost in a wonderful story that I wished would never end! Amazing!

I received this book in exchange for an honest opinion... so..... here we go!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It did start off a bit slow in the beginning, but when it picked up... boy did it!

Meet Glory Alley. She has all the bad luck. Her mother is deceased, her dad is an abusive drunk, and her siblings treat her like crap. Her only release... exploring the caves of Queen Mesa with her best friend, Clash. On the day of their excursion, Glory did the one thing you should never do... explore a dark cave alone. Once inside, she found the most beautiful rock you'll ever see. But this isn't your typical rock. This rock, along with a few qualifications, can make wishes come true. And boy does she need all the help she can get! The problem... that rock is the life and foundation of a civilization that is slowly dying... because the rock is missing. Wybbils are sent to retrieve it and they come back with Glory. Through this journey, Glory learns so much about herself. In the beginning her wishes were selfish, but what she really wanted was to be happy. BUT... she learned a very important lesson... sometimes, you have to be careful what you wish for.

While this story is intended for a younger audience, I had no trouble following along and enjoying myself. It was well written and the world building was great. It did have me reflect on some of things I wished for in life. While that may not have been the purpose of the book, sometimes it's the little things that call for self-reflection.

A true gift in one of our darkest hours

When my seemingly healthy, athletic and active 33 year old wife received a diagnosis out of the blue that would completely alter our life course, we didn't want to hear "God is in control", "He has a plan" or other trite statements. We also didn't want to hear that God would heal her if only her faith was strong enough. What we did want to do was trust that God's Word is still true today and learn how it applies in this difficult situation.

Dickerson has the rare gift of teaching truths from the Bible with love while not glossing over the difficult parts or watering it down. The Church is hurting and looking for answers. Of course they are found in the Bible but some of us need help in properly interpreting and understanding it. "I Am Strong" is a wonderful tool for that purpose.

This book was a true gift to us during one of our darkest hours. As a doctor, I am used to discussing life shattering diagnoses. However, nothing prepared me for the day my wife became the patient and I was the one to tell her we have a problem. Are there days where I still get frustrated and wonder "Why her?" Yep. Are there many more days where I get a glimpse at God's bigger plan for our lives....because "I Am Strong" helped me understand the appropriate Bible passages and how they relate? Absolutely.

After reading, I asked my wife for a line item in our budget to purchase copies of this book to give to friends, family, patients and others I come across who I feel can benefit. My hope is they will then pass along those copies to others. Please join me in that chain.

An honest and encouraging look at suffering and God's purposes

We need encouragement and hope when we are hurting. Dickerson reminds us that the only hope that is real and meaningful is from God. “God's strength best invades our lives through our weaknesses and pain.”

We have all kinds of questions when we suffer. Why am I suffering? Why haven't I been healed? Is God mad at me? Dickerson answers these kinds of questions as he helps us put suffering into an eternal perspective.

Dickerson writes from his own experience. He has hemiplegic migraines. They have debilitating stroke like symptoms. A few times a year he looses his ability to form words and to even think. It's his thorn in the flesh.

He shares how he is daily discovering the comfort of God's presence. He is convinced God is repurposing our temporary pains for our eternal good. We must push ourselves to trust God. There is an inner rest and strength that comes from that relationship with God. “The secret of finding joy, peace, and contentment has nothing to do with your circumstances and everything to do with Christ's strength.”

Dickerson has done an excellent job of helping us understand why there is suffering in the world. He shows that we can have peace and contentment that rise above our circumstances. He has great illustrations, stories of people and from the Bible, to support his teaching.

The message came through clearly that peace and contentment in our circumstances is not something instant. It requires our spiritual growth and is a skill we must learn. Here is how Dickerson describes ultimate spiritual adulthood: “When we really trust God the Father so much more than we trust ourselves. … When we really want His desires more than our desires.”

This is the most honest and realistic book I have read on suffering in a long time. He doesn't promise relief from suffering. He still suffers. But he has learned that God wants to give power and strength through that suffering. That's the truth he has for us too.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who is hurting. You'll read of people who have risen above their pain through Christ's strength. You'll begin to understand what God is doing in your pain and what it means to surrender to His plan. You'll be encouraged by the example of Jesus and His suffering.

It would be a good book to give to someone who is hurting. Perhaps you don't know what to say or how to encourage. This book would be a great help.

a journey to hope and healing...

This book is not only a must read for everyone, but a book that can be given to a friend, family member, coworker, or classmate that might be in that season of their life asking questions, looking for answers, and looking for peace because of the hurt and suffering that they are enduring. Each chapter is filled with real life stories that encourage and Scripture that we can trust in.

The reader of this book will embark on a journey that will bring hope and healing as the subject of pain and suffering is explored and many of life's toughest questions are answered. John Dickerson does not shy away from the truths of the Bible, but presents them in a way that seems to be a perfect blend of truth and grace.

This will definitely be the book that I recommend to others when that age old question of "Why does God allow suffering?" is asked.
