Wonderful Read!

This book is a wonderful story set during the American Revolution. The main character Phoebe is a delightful character and I enjoyed following her journey from being the rebellious one in the family to finding God's plan for her life. The author has done a wonderful job of combing faith, historical fiction and romance that results in a story that I definitely recommend. I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Sweet emotional read.

For anyone who loves a clean sweet historical Christian romance. Loved the characters and the setting. Not much on politics, but this setting makes it interesting. Loved the parallels of spiritual growth and growth as a young adult moving away from relying on parents to relying on God.

Not Always True to Time Period, but I Liked It

Times were difficult in Philadelphia during the Revolutionary War, and family and friends are split apart by loyalties to different sides. Phoebe Fuller’s family is no different. Her beautiful sister and mother have British sympathies, since her sister is being courted by a Tory. However, Phoebe and her father have Patriot leanings, with Phoebe’s brother fighting with Washington’s army. When Nicholas Teasdale, another Patriot, reunites with the family, he confuses Phoebe. She’s drawn to him, but doesn’t like his roguish ways.

This novella moved slowly at first, although it wasn’t bad, and it did get better. Phoebe seemed rather juvenile for eighteen, and the book often read more like a young adult one. I doubt the family would have had patchwork quilts on the bed in Philadelphia in the 1770’s. It would have more than likely been a whole cloth quilt. Patchwork didn’t really become common until the 1840’s. Neither would Phoebe have been wearing hoops and corsets, although she might have had a pannier and stays. A reputable young lady would not have gone out alone with a young man the way Phoebe did with Nicholas, either. They would have had a chaperone. I did enjoy the book, however.

Lord Sugar is the owner of Amshold Group Ltd and the popular star of the award-winning BBC series The Apprentice. A good read if you like The Apprentice UK

A good read if you like The Apprentice UK. Sugar unpacks the nuts and bolts of the series and the book is largely about that. If you're not a viewer of the series this book would be confusing to you as Sugar comments on incidents and episodes during ten the 10 years of production with a behind -the-scenes perspective.

I truly enjoyed this book. As a true fan of UK Apprentice (I liked the US version the first season or so...but, of course, it became more about Trump than business), I enjoyed it immensely. A good romp.

Ken Jennings and John Stahl-Wert's Serving Leader is an amazing and unique testimony of powerful actions and skills every person in a leadership position desires to acquire and utilize in transforming his team; be it business enterprise or non-profit community organization.
The book presented valuable leadership traits and standards using heart-warming tales of an estranged son, his dying father and unique landmarks of innovative leaders in different businesses and community-oriented organizations to illustrate the dynamic five principles of a serving leader.
The authors painstakingly gave us insights into different environments - offices, schools, homes, industries, and other work areas where authentic leaders chosen by followers are in charge principally to build the team, the business, and the community. Thus, a teachable and learnable instrument is offered that provides practical sense for what leadership and service principles for teams and organizations are based upon.
Having come from two distinctive backgrounds, the authors utilized their professional skills in leadership coaching and community building to promote the uplifting of the value of people in organizations and achieving organizational success.

As the authors would say, "They have to stay on the wire to succeed...because life is a high-wire act." This is very true.

Tom Zender held leadership roles at General Electric and Honeywell, and has been a senior vice president in publicly held corporations, New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ listed.

Additionally, he was the CEO of a startup technology company. And, he was president and CEO of a global nonprofit that serves over two million people.

Tom Zender’s corporate board experience includes NASDAQ, Toronto Stock Exchange, and OTC listed public companies. He held nonprofit board positions with Ottawa University, the Forum for Corporate Directors, and the Evolutionary Leaders.

He writes for the Phoenix Business Journal and mentors students at Arizona State University’s SkySong startup business incubator.

What could be more important than perspective--especially the perspective you don't have! Coaching and mentoring brings new insights to those who are willing to learn, listen and apply new perspectives. And if the person they are consulting with has done it all; is worldly, honest and above all understand how the world is stitched together, you now have a world class mentor.. and an edge!

I've had the pleasure of knowing Tom Zender over the last 6mos and his depth, honesty and capacity are 2nd to none--unless you are looking for a cut-throat pirate type. Because the world is moving toward more conscious and transparent approaches to business, one must steer their business into advanced collaboration, advanced communication and taking the high road each and every time.

In my opinion, one of Tom's most significant accomplishments was as the CEO and President of Unity Church (7 years), a global non-profit and very influential organization. Deny your spirituality if you must, but it will put you toward the end of a long line. Be first to adopt advanced principles of success and communication and become a true leader.

Book: “Trust” by Iyanla Vanzant

Book Review by Mary Mikawoz

This book of “Trust” by Iyanla Vanzant is very involved. She covers trust from the perspective of Trust in Self, Trust in God, Trust in Others and Trust in Life. “Cause and effect, correspondence, vibration, attraction, love and forgiveness are all concrete laws that govern the movement and unfolding of life.”

This book is a good read from the beginning stories of Iyanla's life when she had to claim bankruptcy in her life. She had to live in a renting situation for years even after starting the “Iyanla: Fix My Life” TV series on the OWN network. After having risen from poverty to a high state of living, she was not used to this style of life. When her relationship with her husband broke down and other relationships broke down in her personal and professional life, her standard of life went downhill. She prayed to God for direction. She was happy to be living in a rental situation with limited opportunities when friends asked her when she would be moving on. She gave it some reflection over a couple of years. She had to overcome her bankruptcy situation. She had to be pre-approved for a mortgage. She found a place in need of much repair. To make a long story short, it was her friend, Oprah Winfrey, who came in with Nate Berkus and repaired it for her as a surprise. She was very grateful.

Next comes the part of trusting in God. Actually, this theme carries throughout the book. Without God's prime direction, you are missing out. It is God who provides the lessons to be learned. It is with trusting in God that he/she has your back that good things happen to you. It is through God, that you are able to listen to your intuition or your inner guidance system. Plus, if you are able to say “No” to circumstances that do not serve your better interests or desires, you will be better off.

Dealing with trust in others is an interesting expression of situations that Iyanla has found herself in. She is able to tell interesting stories of people she has met on their path. Some of the stories seem so dramatic but it is only because I find the stories so heart-wrenching. Person after person, has been let down by their parents, by their spouses, by their employer or by their business. Lessons need to be learned and through the process of identifying issues affecting the small little girl or boy inside, it is necessary to deal with the past issues without getting stuck there. People make progress by believing in God and trusting their intuition. They lean into trust and make hard decisions. Iyanla even speaks of Jay, the man who fathered 34 children with 17 different women that was featured on “Iyanla, Fix My Life.” Somehow he was able to convince all these women to trust him and that he would change just for them.

Finally, Iyanla speaks of trust in life. She outlines many people who were cut off before they even started. She mentions people like George Lucas who spent four years trying to sell his script for Star Wars which is now a block-buster set of movies. Then there was Michael Jordan who was cut from his high school basketball team and came to be a legend in and of himself. It took Harland David Sanders 1010 attempts to sell his secret chicken recipe before he got a bite and became Kentucky Fried Chicken fame. Walt Disney was fired from his newspaper job for lacking ideas and went into personal bankruptcy before he was able to establish the world famous Walt Disney Theme Parks. Fred Astaire after his first screen test was given a less than passing mention and was said to be able to dance a little bit. Vince Lomardi was said to have minimal football knowledge and went on to be one of the best NFL coaches. Tyler Perry was so poor he lived out of his car for six years while trying to establish himself as an actor and movie mogul. Forbes put him as the second highest earning man in 2011 and then there is J.K. Rowling who was a depressed single mother trying to make her world of Harry Potter come alive. Now she is a billionaire author. Success came to these people because they continued to try and so can you.

Trust in the process of life. I would recommend this book to those willing to explore this process of life and trust.

Beautifully written, profoundly insightful with wisdom and teachings that are priceless and easy to apply

Iyanla Vanzant's new book Trust is even more spectacular than her previous epic best selling book, Peace From Broken Pieces. If you've read Peace From Broken Pieces, then you'll understand what a big statement that is. If you haven't, buy it immediately along with Trust. For one whom is on the journey of spiritual growth and personal development this will be your new faithful companion. Give yourself some love and enjoy the benefits of this triumphant book written by a beloved, true master of all things relationship, spirituality and the heart.

Just What I Needed

Big Iyanla Vanzant Fan

The opportunity to read this book came at the perfect time for me. I had just decided that for the year of 2016, I was going to work on TRUST. And in came Iyanla.

I have always had a trust issue involving the men in my life. I finally got to the point that I realized that I was picking the wrong men. Lightbulb moment! How can I trust in a man that I had so wrongly chosen in the beginning? If what you really wanted was a dog, why bring a cat home and expect it to behave as a dog?

I was familiar with Iyanla's life stories from reading a number of her pervious books but it was good to revisit some of them in the context of trust. As I continue on my journey to Trust, I will reference the many highlighted sections from this book.

Great book for those new to Steve Jobs!

I really enjoyed reading this book. While it does cover many aspects of Steve Job's life from childhood through his death, I would have liked to have seen an interview or two from those who may have known Jobs personally. I think the author does a great job in their research and I certainly learned a few new things about the man I did not know.

I think this is a great book for those who are really new to wanting to answer the question: "Who is this Steve Jobs guy?" I also would have liked some photos of maybe the people and places mentioned but I do realize that those photos cost money and that it would make the book more expensive, so I understand that.

More Jobs than channeling

This book isn't exactly what is says on the cover. Most of the book gives a story about life of great Steve Jobs and the "channeling" part is only in the last chapter. I wasn't too bothered with that, I picked up this book when it was free, but I can see that some people might be upset with that. However, the Jobs part is well researched and interesting to read so the book as a whole still deserves good rating.

Steve jobs is indeed has become an icon not just in technology, but also in the business world, in management. He has been an admirable person to look up to. This book is just amazing, it's like knowing him more and how he does stuffs successfully which you can also apply to yourself. The advises and tips are just brilliant.

The melodrama surrounding the lives of the hospital staff and teens will appeal to non-demanding readers, but the admirable portrayal of a single father strengthens the plot. I have really enjoyed reading this series

I have really enjoyed reading this series! If you enjoy Christian Medical Thrillers with some Mystery, Romance and Suspense thrown in, then this is a series you will truly enjoy! I highly recommend reading this series in order, however each could be read as a stand alone but in my opinion they wouldn't be as enjoyable as you might feel a bit lost when there is a reference made to something that happened in the prior book.
I hope you enjoy this book and series as much as I have. Happy reading! :)

Necessary Measures is the second book in The Healing Touch series by Hannah Alexander. If you like medical suspense with a touch of faith, this series has it. Highly recommended.

Realistic characters dealing with realistic trouble. Very suspenseful.

"Necessary Measures" is a Christian medical suspense novel. It's the second book in a series. You don't have to read the previous novel to understand this one, but I'd recommend doing so anyway as it's a good book and you'll enjoy this one even more if you do.

The characters were interesting and complex. The various characters dealt with real issues in realistic ways. There were quite a few viewpoint characters in this novel. All of them had major troubles at the same time, so it felt a little...overwhelming. If I hadn't gotten emotional connected with half of these characters in the previous book, I'm not sure I'd want to stick it out with all of them in this one. There was plenty of suspense--from relationships, a lawsuit, job stress, sleuthing danger, medical emergencies, etc.

The Christian characters' faith affected their decisions and everyday life, and the Christian elements felt like a natural part of the story. Christianity was portrayed in a realistic manner, from how Christians often act to how the non-Christians reacted.

There was no bad language or sex. Overall, I'd recommend this suspenseful novel.
