About the Author
Jackie Castle looks for the extraordinary in every ordinary day that she experiences. She is the author of The White Road Chronicles a fantasy series, The Sentinel Archives for school-age readers, and newly released Madison Creek Bed & Breakfast romance series. She has also published articles and short stories in numerous magazines. She's enjoyed many crazy adventures from working as a hairstylist, to her bravest quest: teaching children in daycare and elementary schools. Eventually, she settled down to a somewhat safer pursuit of being a Story-weaver. Now she lives in her comfortable Texas home where she spins marvelous tales and enjoys relaxing in the evenings with her husband Bob, their children and grandchild. Her favorite pastime, besides reading, is traipsing through her imaginary worlds in search of another story. Sweet, Clean, Gently Christian Romance. Recommended For the Right Audience.

I got this book when it was offered for free because it sounded interesting. I am ambivalent about Christian fiction, even though I am a Christian, because some of the books are way more strident than I like, so I was a bit wary. I'm happy to say that this book had a good balance for those readers who share my taste in Christian fiction.
This was a very clean read that brought a Christian message without the fire and brimstone and without heavy handedness. That is not to say that it watered down the Christian aspects, just that the message was offered with a gentle approach. As my grandmother used to say, "You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar". The main characters prayed for guidance, prayed to give thanks, read a bible verse and spoke openly about their beliefs. When discussing a character who was an alcoholic, the protagonists did it in a loving, non-judgemental way, and with sadness about the character's weakness. Christians in the community came together to help each other and they primarily had kind words about others. The hero was likeable from the start but the heroine was a bit too stubborn and negative initially. Her character changed for the better as she slowly returned to her faith, looked for the best in others, dropped her instinctual habit of looking for hidden motives when offered help, and accepted the love and help of others. In short, the author was successful in presenting a picture of how Christians should act.
I enjoyed this book and it held my interest. It was evenly paced, without dragging or rushed places. This is a good book for when in the mood for a sweet romance. The overtly Christian message is incorporated into the story well, without overwhelming the romance and character driven aspects. Those looking for that nice balance should be pleased.
There were a few mistakes that missed the editor's eye, but the writing was good overall. The heroine was raised in Texas, so the dialogue contained a number of Southern phrases. I only mentioned that because I've seen some bad reviews given because the reviewers disliked it and felt it made the writing unsophisticated or rustic. Personally, I liked it, but those who hate "Southernisms" should avoid the book.

A Great Read

I can imagine what Michigan felt when Haley landed there from Texas.
Ethan was an example of opposites attract.
These two are the epitome of Northern hospitality meeting Southern comfort.
Asking The Lord to guide them in their decisions was comforting.
I look forward to the next one in this series.
Good job from One Texan to another.

Enjoyed this book in spite of a few grammar/spelling mistakes. Sweet story set in a delightful sounding small town.
