Simple and feels "true"

I was christened in the Anglican Church, and attended secondary school at a Brigidine Catholic convent. My father had been a Roman Catholic, my mother an Anglican. They had married in a Presbyterian church. My father accepted from Mormon missionaries two texts about their faith.
All my later life I have tried to live generously, working in state education to bring about positive changes in my pupils' lives. I taught for six years at a private Presbyterian secondary school.
A relative and her adult daughter have joined a "church" which confuses Christianity with the laws for the Jewish faith as laid out in the Bible's Old Testament. I have read a few of their tracts, and heard the (to me) ridiculous rules by which this cult's members have to live.
So I have been worried about that, and also been inspired by the faith of many admirable acquaintances and friends. Hence my obtaining this book (among others).
The prayers "feel" true; the author's words "feel" right; the accompanying Bible verses "feel" fitting. All in all, this simple little book has reaffirmed my longing to rejoin a Christian congregation.

Good guide for each day, repeated each month.

I found spiritual strength in this book as some of the Biblical quotations refreshed me. I liked all of the 31 topics, about two pages devoted to each. These include "Praise for" -- salvation, blessings, trials, mercy, strength, purpose, healing, His Word, compassion, etc. Here's the central theme of each Praise Focus -- "God has shown you by his Amazing affection and grace that He would rather lose all things than lose you." (Loc. 81).
Perhaps one weakness in the writing style is the repetition of the same thoughts in much the same way. I guess it stands out if you read the book in a short space rather than taking it day by day -- at least that's what I found. So there is an overabundance of telling me what to do -- "Reflect on this...take time to...meditate on...." After living a Christian life for over 50 years, I also know that there is no magic, such as: "Meditate on Him, and you will be free." (Loc. 204). Free from what? More specifics or illustrations in some areas would help.
Still, I'll be going back to this book occasionally to be refreshed in particular areas. A recommended good buy for a Christian's library.
